Community Activities Program, 2006
CAP recognizes groups that participate in activities that benefit their local communities. American Mensa extends its appreciation to the following four Local Groups that submitted their community-service projects:
First Place
Southwest by South Florida Mensa
Mensa Scholarship Trivia Fundraiser
Southwest by South Florida Mensa coordinates periodic Trivia Battles with other organizations in the area. The most well-known is the Bikers vs. Brainers battles, but the group has also gone up against a professional organization, a writer’s guild and a karate studio. During the event, the group "passes a hat" around the crowd to raise money for their scholarship fund.
Second Place
Oregon Mensa
Oregon Scholarships
Oregon Mensa held a large garage sale to help fund their scholarship program. This year, the group provided five scholarships to college students.
Third Place
Borderline Mensa
2005 Relay for Life Team
Borderline Mensa sponsored a team in Sierra Vista’s 2005 American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Team. To raise funds for the team sponsorship, the group used different techniques, including "Have a Drink to Fight Cancer," where participants matched their bar tab with an equal donation to the Relay for Life.
American Mensa offers sincere thanks to each of these Local Groups for their dedication to community service and improving the world in which they live.
