Community activity awards

On an annual basis, Mensa's Local Groups reach out to make their communities better. They sponsor elementary-school science fairs, raise scholarship money, donate school supplies, and stock local libraries with new books. They lend their support to PBS pledge drives and bike rides for kidney research. These community service efforts are recognized at the national level by the Community Activities Program.

Begun in 2000 as an innovation of then-Chairman Bob Beatty, the Community Activities Program identifies those activities that local members and groups have undertaken to improve their community. Groups enter their projects and their results and are recognized during American Mensa's Annual Gathering.

As of 2008, the Community Activities Program is no longer a contest recognizing "winners." Certificates of recognition are presented to all Local Groups who submit a community service project for consideration.

CAP Awards 2009: Groups recognized in the 2009 Community Activities Program include Greater New York Mensa, Piedmont Area Mensa, Tucson Mensa and Oregon Mensa.

CAP Awards 2008: Groups recognized in the 2009 Community Activities Program include Central Florida Mensa, Mid-America Mensa, Oregon Mensa, Piedmont Area Mensa, San Diego Mensa and Tucson Mensa.

CAP Awards 2007: Groups recognized in the 2007 Community Activities Program include Oregon Mensa, Piedmont Area Mensa and Chicago Area Mensa.

CAP Awards 2006: Groups recognized in the 2006 Community Activities Program include Southwest by South Florida Mensa, Oregon Mensa and Borderline Mensa.

CAP Awards 2005: Groups recognized in the 2005 Community Activities Program include Borderline Mensa and Central Florida Mensa.

CAP Awards 2004: Groups recognized in the 2004 Community Activities Program include San Antonio Mensa, Delaware Valley Mensa and Minnesota Mensa.

CAP Awards 2003: Groups recognized in the 2003 Community Activities Program include Southeast Michigan Mensa, San Diego Mensa and Minnesota Mensa.

CAP Awards 2002: Groups recognized in the 2002 Community Activities Program include Minnesota Mensa and San Diego Mensa.

CAP Awards 2001: Groups recognized in the 2001 Community Activities Program include San Francisco Regional Mensa, San Diego Mensa and Columbus Area Mensa.

CAP Awards 2000: Groups recognized in the 2000 Community Activities Program include Lonestar Mensa, Minnesota Mensa and Columbus Area Mensa.

CAP Awards 1999: Groups recognized in the 1999 Community Activities Program include Minnesota Mensa, Columbus Area Mensa and North Alabama Mensa.
