Van Gemert, Lisa

The Gifted Youth Specialist coordinates gifted youth activities for American Mensa and the Mensa Foundation. Further, the position is responsible for providing programming and support for the young members of American Mensa as well as the gifted youth, educators and parents of the general public.

Specifically, Lisa creates content such as lesson plans, activity plans and other online resources; provides assistance with FRED as needed; and handles incoming email and phone calls regarding gifted youth issues. She serves as liaison to the Gifted Youth Committee as well as the National Association of Gifted Children and other organizations. She administrates the Bright Kids elist and works with the National Events Youth Program Coordinator on events and activities for the gifted youth program at the Annual Gathering.

Lisa holds a Masters of Education in Teaching from the University of Texas at Arlington and was a teacher and high school administrator prior to coming to Mensa. In addition to her work with Mensa, she conducts professional development sessions for thousands of teachers each year on best practices in the education of the gifted. Lisa lives in Arlington, Texas, with her husband, the youngest of their three sons, and her dog, Laney.
